The Queen approves temporary shipping container hire for hotel
The Queen has given permission for a temporary hotel made from 75 converted shipping containers to be built in the grounds of Windsor Castle.
The portable building will house 600 performers from around the world who are set to take part in next month’s Diamond Jubilee equestrian pageant.
Russian Cossacks, Indian presidential bodyguards and cowboys from Oklahoma are among the entertainers who will spend three nights in the two-storey structure. which is also known as Snoozebox.
Each room will be supplied through container hire and be transformed into four en-suite rooms with double bed, TV and wireless internet.
Simon Brooks-Ward, director of the pageant, said: “It’s the perfect accommodation solution for this important international event.”
This certainly gives a new meaning to shipping container hire.

Town Council objects to steel container hire
Brigg Town Council in Lincolnshire has just seen its’ planning committee object to the siting of five metal containers that have been placed near a residential area.
The Council considered the two-storey containers were not in keeping with the character of the residential area that neighbours it – claiming that they are causing a detrimental impact on the outlook from the rear of the properties on a road behind the site.
The committee backed the original decision made by the planning authority that the steel container hire shall be removed on or before three years from the decision date and the land shall be returned to its former constitution.
