Use shipping containers as exhibition stands

The show season is just around the corner, why not use shipping containers as exhibition stands.

For companies that market their goods at multiple exhibitions, the extra cost of getting external companies to provide stands at each event can add up – shipping containers are the perfect solution.

They look impressive – a decking area outside the container can be created, as well as lighting and seating inside the container. Also, all of your company’s promotional material can be hung both inside and outside the containers.

Being over eight foot high, the roof of the container could be used either as a separate meeting area with a staircase and handrails or as a base for more advertisements.

You will really stand out from the crowd and draw the attentions of the visitors at the shows.

Shipping Containers used as “playpod” in school playground

An old shipping container in the playground of St Keyna School in Keynsham, Somerset has turned into a must-have item for pupils.

The school have used shipping containers to convert into a “playpod” for the young children at the school.

Rob Sandel, deputy headteacher of St Keyna Primary School, said: “The introduction of the PlayPod has been a tremendously positive development for our school. Our children have really enjoyed the opportunities it has given them to get involved in a very wide variety of imaginative and creative play activities.

The brightly painted Playpod, which contains fun and colourful materials designed to encourage children to play outside, is on loan from Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Cornwall Council consider shipping container hire for local shop

Cornwall councillors are considering plans for a shipping container to be placed in a lay-by to sell local farmers’ produce.

The ‘shopbylayby’ scheme is the idea of Nigel Pengelly, who is hoping to introduce a chain of similar outlets to compete with supermarkets.

The planning committee is making a decision on the 20ft by 8ft by 8ft 6in container, which would be clad in wood and sited in the lay-by.

In a report, Mr Pengelly said the lay-by was already used by traders but their stock was limited because they had to move off each day – recommending the use of shipping container hire as a solution.

The container shop would sell local produce such as vegetables, bread, milk and cheese.

Logistic and freight companies to transport container hire via railways

Most freight and logistics providers are keen to reduce their carbon footprint by using railways much more when transporting goods.

DHL, for example, will be using the rail network for consolidated freight containers which have to be transported from the transhipment facility in Bremen to the terminals of the different liner shipping companies in Hamburg and Bremerhaven.

Up to now, most of these containers were taken by road transport to the various sea freight terminals but by opting to keep goods off the road, the logistics company estimates it will be able to save approximately 365 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The container hire redistribution facility in Bremen is one of Europe’s most important sea freight transhipment centres. It is the base from which around 7,500 consolidated freight containers are transported to the terminals of various shipping companies each year. With rail transport proving its efficiency in a trial phase, it will now be used regularly from the beginning of April 2011 onwards.
